Another Northwest Omaha neighborhood was a target for thieves this past weekend. The Tranquility park area had reports of several car break-ins on the NextDoor app.

One neighbor caught two people checking his car door on surveillance cameras. In the video you see someone walk up to the car, check it, and then move onto a neighbor's car that was left unlocked.

“You see those posts of people saying they were going through garages and cars and you don't think anything of it unfortunately,” ShaMonica Sterling said.

She said someone go into her car Saturday night.

“Everything (was) poured out and dispersed from my purse, I went to see what was missing apparently two debit cards, my work phone and a check book,” she said.

Sterling’s bank notified her that someone tried to cash check for almost $500 on Tuesday.

“It is stressful in that you worry about your personal information, the privacy; they have access to my personal information from this point.”

Sterling isn’t sure if the people caught on her neighbors cameras are the ones who got into her car, but she is determined to keep this from happening again and is investing in her own security system.

“Defiantly, no question about it, I called ADT and got a few rates,” she said. “For that piece of mind I am willing to pay for it.”

She said it was the one time her car was parked in the driveway and left unlocked, she hopes other will pay attention to the beak-ins.

“I have lost a lot of the peace of mind that I once had staying here, double check everything.”
