A big annexation plan has potential Gretna residents fighting back. They say they're not getting many answers to what will happen if they are taken in.
About 1,900 people live in the proposed areas which include neighborhoods northwest, and south of Gretna plus the western edge of Interstate 80 running all the way up to the 144th Street exit. It also includes the up-scale neighborhood northeast of 168th Street and Highway 370.
Residents in that area are mixed on if they are for or against the annexation. Some are concerned it could increase taxes and make it harder to get city services or improvements.
"I think it's a land grab, personally," resident John Churchill said. "If you look at the chain they way they're getting it they're trying to get to the west side of the interstate to block off Papillion's annexation."
Others wonder how it will impact where their kids can go to school since parents in the 168th and HWY 370 neighborhood say their kids go to Platteview.
The Gretna Planning Department already approved the annexation plan, so it will be in front of the City Council at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gretna Middle School. There will be a public hearing during the meeting.
